February has been declared “Insure Your Love Month” by the LIFE Foundation, with a campaign inviting people to think of life insurance not just as a necessary insurance policy, but as a way to protect their loved ones and let them know how much they care. The LIFE Foundation first launched the campaign in 2009, and it encouraged the insurance industry to get involved to build awareness of the importance of life insurance and how it can provide emotional and financial protection to the insured’s loved ones.

Marvin H. Feldman, CLU, ChFC, RFC, president and CEO of the LIFE Foundation, said upon launching the campaign, “A gift of life insurance may not seem as romantic as a box of chocolates or a dinner out, but a recent LIFE survey found that 70 percent of Americans would give up celebrating Valentine’s Day in exchange for greater financial peace of mind. Concern about today’s economy has people thinking differently this Valentine’s Day, making it the perfect time to talk to consumers about a more meaningful and enduring way of expressing their love. With the severity of the financial crisis, I can’t think of a better thing to give a loved one than the gift of long-term financial security.”

Now, almost ten years later, the campaign’s message still holds great meaning. In the recent 2017 Insurance Barometer Study, parents with young children were one of the demographics who felt the most strongly about the importance of having a life insurance policy.
